Mobile Health Group | Hauora Taiwhenua Scholarships 2025
The Mobile Health Group | Hauora Taiwhenua Scholarships are now open for 2025!
This opportunity will provide financial support to 14 rural students to pursue their health studies. The scholarships each valued at $5,000, will be offered to any rural youth entering their first year of full-time undergraduate study in nursing, medicine, or allied health-related courses at any New Zealand Universities, Polytechnics, or PTEs.
Providing scholarships to rural youth pursuing health studies is crucial in addressing the chronic shortage of rural healthcare workers. By incentivising and supporting young individuals from rural areas to pursue careers in healthcare, we aim to cultivate a sustainable solution to the longstanding issue of healthcare workforce deficits in rural communities. These scholarships not only empower students to access higher education but also encourage them to return to their communities as qualified healthcare professionals, thereby ensuring better healthcare access and outcomes for rural populations in the long term.

Alisia Stoin, one of last year’s Rural Health Scholarship recipients, is now in her second year of medicine at the University of Auckland. She kindly shared part of her inspiring journey with us, reflecting on the challenges she faced moving from a small town to a big city. At times, Alisia felt isolated, but thanks to the support provided by her scholarship, many of those barriers were eased. With essentials like groceries, rent, and study resources covered, she was able to focus fully on her studies and connect with her peers without the added pressure of having to work during her first year. The reduced financial stress made a huge difference, and she truly made the most of the opportunity. Read her inspiring story here.
