Mobile Health Group shifts to Ngā Paerewa certification
Mobile Health Group (MHG) has proudly achieved a new milestone, with both its Mobile Surgical and Mobile Medical services now certified against the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard.
The shift marks a move away from the organisation’s previous accreditations EQuIP 6 and the Day-Stay Surgery Standard toward an approach that is better suited for the future.
Quality manager Kathryn Howden says the decision was an intentional one.
“Ngā Paerewa is a more suitable alternative for us moving forward and thinking towards a brighter future,” she explains.
“This audit felt different to our previous audits, but what’s important is that it focused on defined standards and regulatory requirements, with a strong emphasis on cultural safety, equity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.”
Howden says the change also reflects the evolving expectations of Aotearoa New Zealand’s health sector.
Ngā Paerewa, while compliance-focused, still supports quality improvement and is more aligned with the current regulatory environment and is an opportunity to enhance cultural understanding.”
The certification, valid for three years, came with praise from the DAA Group. Auditors commended the organisation for its culturally safe care initiatives, while also identifying a few corrective actions for improvement, something MHG says it is committed to working on.
Chief executive Mark Eager says the result is a credit to the team.
“The team worked incredibly hard on this certification and audit. I am proud of the outcomes and look forward to the future,” he says.
“Making the shift to the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard is essential for the growth of our organisation. We are committed to providing care for our communities that aligns with these standards.”
