Clinical Nurse Leader
• Unique mobile surgery service
• Work 1 in every 5 weeks – travel required
• Based anywhere in the North Island
• Permanent, part-time position
Mobile Health, with funding from the Ministry of Health, provides elective day surgery to rural communities using New Zealand’s only mobile operating theatre. Operating on a five-week cycle around the whole country, Mobile Health provides a clinical nurse leader and anaesthetic technician for each week-long run. Surgeons and anaesthetists are sourced according to location and clinical specialty, while each day four local rural nurses complete the theatre team.
We have the rare opportunity for a theatre nurse to join our team as ongoing clinical nurse leaders on the Mobile Surgical Unit – Te Waka Hauora, to work for one North Island run per five-week cycle. You will experience the warmth of working in small communities and hospitals, as well as the satisfaction of providing quality healthcare.
The role and challenges:
Your responsibility will involve the day-to-day running of a safe operating theatre alongside the anaesthetic technician. Training of local nursing staff is also an integral component of this challenging role; along with the clinical pressures, you will be required to travel on the Sunday prior to your week starting. Each day’s patient list can be long and at times draining, and at the end of each day you will make the 1 – 3 hour’s trip to the next town. Despite this, staff manage to maintain a relaxed and enjoyable work environment.
Qualifications and experience:
You will be a registered nurse with at least ten years of theatre experience, some of which in a role managing people. As a team leader, you will be the contact point for all team members, so your communication and leadership skills should be excellent. As clinical teaching is a large component of the role, experience in this domain is strongly desired. PACU and recovery experience is also a requirement.
